Election thoughts

It's a big day.  Not for me.  I'll go about today...attending meetings, doing lunch, sending emails, taking calls, and going to a doctors appointment this afternoon.Nothing special.  But on my way home, I'll be stopping by the fire hall.
To vote.
Because it's a big day for America.
Once every 4 years...we decide.  Make a change?  Continue with our same leader and cling to his strengths and hope he can overcome his weaknesses?
What will happen?
Unless you live....well, forget it.  Even if you live under a rock, you know how volatile this election has been.  The hate ads.  The heated debates.  The controversy, even among friends.  The defriending on facebook.
It's been a bit crazy.  And, of course, I have my opinion like everyone else.  And tomorrow, I'll go cast my vote for whom I believe will help us be the best nation we can be for the next four years.
I hope you do, too.
It's very easy to become cynical in today's society.  Easy to believe that our actions don't matter in the grand scheme of things.  And maybe, sometimes, they don't.  But think about Florida in 2000.  Still think you don't need to vote?
Opinions on tomorrow's outcome are a dime a dozen, but I'll throw mine in.
I think it's gonna be ridiculously close.
As in, we'll go to bed tomorrow night and not know who won, much like in 2000.  (Incidentally, the first year I could vote.  I remember watching the election as a freshman in college with my friends, sitting on the edge of our seats, marveling at the drama.  Has it been that long??)
I think that Romney will get quite a bit of the popular vote-people are looking for change.  Our country has been through hell in the last 4 years, and it's easy to see the failings (or perceived failings).
However, I believe that Obama is more of the "people's president".  Romney has done a great job of alienating the lower and middle class, as well as a great deal of women.
I think if everyone in America could wake up tomorrow and press a button.....blue for Obama and red for Romney then...POOF, it automatically tabulated a winner....
Obama would win.
But.
That's not the way it goes.  And with the 60% of Americans that will probably vote tomorrow...the percentage of people that fit into the category above....don't fit into that 60%.
Therefore, I believe tomorrow night, or Wednesday morning, we will be waiting.....
for the inauguration of a new president in January.
Mitt Romney.
And Paul Ryan's bicep....that might come along too.
I could be wrong.  We'll just see.

GO VOTE TODAY!  It's the most important thing you can do as a citizen of this country!  If you don't vote, you can't really criticize the outcome....and everyone likes a good bitch :-P  (said tongue in cheek)

  1. One vote never matters in a presidential election. Not even in Florida in 2000.

Local elections, on the other hand? Your vote can swing those, and those people can royally screw up your day-to-day life. Pity that people ignore those.
